A beast of a book, for sure. I have had to rely on other publications to supplement this book. Jamaica Kincaid, A Small Place. Some of them are easier to understand than others. I obviously llterary read every word of this book, but I did consume a fairly large majority of the essays.

That practice is abundantly revelatory and one that I love. It is very lengthy and each essay is very long and very difficult to read unless you love to read about phonology for fun.
