May 26, Chelsea rated it liked it Shelves: This book is amazing! Besides that, learning with manga is more fun than simply reading page after page of dry prose. It has some usefulness in learning some informal forms of speech alongside classroom ones — including swear words!

I’m relatively new to learning Japanese and I find it difficult mapanese read off of a computer screen and I heard about the Japanese in Mangaland series. I got this book back when I was self studying Japanese in high school. I like how this book is made.
There are some minor errors in the book however, pretty dangerous for fresh Japanses students. Do not guess or attempt to answer questions beyond your own knowledge.
The errors might be in localization. I did enjoy the unique chapters, like swear words, onomatopoeia, etc. Product details Format Paperback pages Dimensions I received this book used from a friend, who thought he could give manaland a crash course in Japanese and be a semi-fluent tourist in less than a couple months.
Now, isn’t the manga supposed to provide the fun and interesting context for learning all of this? I’ve never seen those in other Japanese learning textbooks.

The staff recommendations at the local Book Off haven’t been very helpful sadly.
In every lesson, the student will learn 8 to 12 kanji and mangaalnd move on to the exercise section, which features one page of manga using all the characters learnt in that lesson; a page of different types of exercises; and a page with the correct answers, translations and a summary of the new drawing-compounds that will appear in the next lesson.
