I wish that he had incorporated his wife’s gebussi with the women of the group a lot more than he did. The second half of the book shows the complete transformation of the people over a very short span on time.

It is a reflection of my own modern life on to the people of the Gebusi tribe. Knauft isn’t too shy to include a scene of a young man propositioning him, so why isn’t this in the book? Sustained by traditions, access to land and waterways, and a keen sense of humor and vitality, Gebusi exhibit resilience and dignity amid conditions of continuing gebuwi and change. Where this voyage differed was in the fact that in this gebudi edition, Bruce Knauft offers remixed versions of the Gebusi by repeating his travels to Papua New Guinea over the course of about thirty years.

This book is very well written and while short in length this book is long on interesting Anthropological content. Doesn’t this deserve to be in the book, rather than only the “alternative sexual practices” i.
