Just retribution for all the nasty tricks he had played on her in the past.

And Jason of Artane puzzled me. She ends up being reluctant squire to Colin, who is determined to make a ‘man’ out of her. Little did Alienore think when she escaped becoming the Butcher’s bride that she would become his protege man-at-arms instead. I was powerfully put off with the author’s portrayal of Sybil: Jun 27, Terri rated it it was amazing. When she finds herself as his knight in training, she’s pretty sure that she’s descended into hell.

Very cute but a lil long. Colin was funny and terrifying all at the same time, which I enjoyed. Overall, this was a fun story with unique characters and a lot of adventure. Oct 09, Frezanda rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Unfortunately for Colin, all his brides are too afraid to marry him and make up excuses I. His reputation as the fiercest fighter of all time has driven his betrothed to run away and hide, as a man!

Finding himself stuck in the keep with nothing to do having no interest to interact with his bride, who has no interest in interacting with himthe Butcher decides to occupy himself with a little charity – that poor weak knight, Sir Henri – he doesn’t even know how to hold a sword properly!

Christopher’s friend and guard, Colin of Berkamshire takes the lead in this story that leads him in a very Twelfth Night kind of way to his love, Alienore of Solenge. I normally love swordswomen but Alienore flinches when she touches metal and often seems scared of her own shadow.

I personally felt that it could have been shorter–Kurland did not give Colin enough credit for figuring out the Sir Henri was a girl.

I didn’t see how a hero would BO would possibly appeal to me. Will he recognise her?

It wouldn’t have changed the story drastically if done at the right moment but would have been much more satisfying for the reader.

Had to laugh too, that they both didn’t worry overmuch about bathing! Unfortunately for Alienore, soon that woman is engaged to Colin – and soon Alienore is in Colin’s household. After he defended her from others and protected her, she was still scared of him!

She isn’t much good with a sword, but good at keeping watch and eventually she is tasked with escorting a daughter of the house she is now working for, to her betrothed – The Butcher of Lybn. He’s a man’s man – he doesn’t dance, flatter, use fine table manners or know how to treat a woman. Then the second half kurlad Colin knowing she’s female, trying to figure out why she’s hiding, why she’s being threatened, and what is going on.

He mmoment knew that Colin would never hurt her. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Her actions just made me wince my way through the story so I could get it over with.

Yes the story is slow moving, has an ugly hygiene-challenged hero and a heroine who jumps from being brave to meek at a glance. We were brought back into the world of the characters from Gillian and Christopher’s book, so it was nice to see all of them again. But because of his fearsome reputation, she ran away disguised as a boy.

And then when Ali’nore tells him in a round about way that she cares for him Colin gets all teary but blames the dirt getting in his eyes. Two years ago his bride-to-be, Alienore, fled and hasn’t been seen since. He is huge and terrifying, and proud of it. Somehow during high school, in between bouts of Verdi and Rossini, she managed to find time to submerge herself in equal parts Tolkien, Barbara Cartland and Mad Magazine.

Overall, I just felt disappointed in the story as a historical romance.

From This Moment on (De Piaget, book 9) by Lynn Kurland

She was such thiis coward for most of the story that at one moment I felt like pulling my hair out in frustration! And I wanted to hug Alienore each time she was hurt. Alienore has a stepmother who is, of course, wicked. Amazon Music Stream millions of songs. I feel like the characters are well defined and are not shallow people. I really wanted to give this book htis stars because it was a really good story with a really great hero but I couldn’t.
